Dear Christian Parent,

If you’ve been looking for quality Christian fiction for children that’s based on the Bible, not on worldly ideals, you’ve come to the right place.

I'm Ruth Willms, Christian author, educator, mentor and and grandmother. I write Bible-based fiction that entertains and inspires kids aged 8 – 12, and their parents.

(Ruth, I already know I want The Lion Tree. Please take me to the order page.)

I, like many of you, have felt disturbed by the wordly views and unbiblical values that are so prevalent in children’s fiction today. As someone who works with children and their parents, I’ve felt frustrated by the negative messages that are widely published for our children to read.

I felt a real burden to“offset the negativity”
that’s so common in children’s literature today.

I have always had a deep passion for my Savior, Jesus Christ, and a burning desire to tell others about Him. That desire led me to earn a certificate in Christian Education, and I went on to teach several Christian preschool classes, hundreds of Sunday School students, and disciple many new Christians – most of them parents who wanted to know how to teach their children about how to have their own relationship with Jesus.

But, I’ve always believed my biggest responsibility was to teach my own children, and my grandchildren, about God’s love for them and the difference He can make in their lives.

I have also always loved to tell stories. As a teenager, I kept my sisters awake at night with stories about me being adopted, and then finding out I was really a princess! Later, on, I took writing classes and entertained my teachers and fellow students with my stories of fantasy and adventure.

I discovered that, when I merged my two passions together and began writing Christian stories for children, kids and their parents loved them! These were stories about real kids, with real problems, who found out that being friends with Jesus could make a real difference in their lives.

"We have just finished reading The Lion Tree book together
and I loved it very much. I can't wait to read Battle in the Lion Tree.
You are a very good story writer."
Jonathan

My short stories were published in Christian children’s magazines, shared with my Sunday School classes, preschool students, and later with my own grandchildren, Darian and Cassidy.

But, as my Darian and Cassidy grew older, they wanted stories with even more excitement and adventure.

At the same time, they had a lot of questions about the Bible... questions like:

"What does it REALLY mean to have faith?"

"How can hoping in God help anything?"

"How am I supposed to love someone who’s been mean to me?"

I wanted to answer their questions, but in a language they could understand. I know that everyone loves a good story! So, I began to create more complex, exciting storylines to keep them entertained, and I included the answers to their questions. And so, the Lion Tree was born.

Darian and Cassidy requested more and more of the Lion Tree stories, so I had to write them down to keep track of plot twists and the all characters’ adventures! Eventually, I put these stories together into a novel, which I now share with other Christian parents and educators, like you.

The Lion Tree is fantasy fiction, but it’s based on
sound biblical principles.

In The Lion Tree, the main characters have exciting adventures, but they also learn:

  • how to forgive someone who has hurt you

  • real-life lessons from the Bible stories of Jonah and the Whale, Brave Queen Esther, and others

  • how to be patient in times of trial

  • what it means to have faith “as small as a mustard seed”

  • how God can help us be brave when we’re afraid

  • that prayer really does change things

  • how to share what we have with others in need

  • the importance of telling the truth, even when it’s tough

  • how kids can help support missionaries to other countries

" ... here’s a children’s book that will gain the attention of your child,
inspire imagination and teach some character..."
Rhonda White, Mommy Revenue
